Is CSULB quarter or semester? ›

California State University, Long Beach operates on a semester system, which is supplemented by a fee-supported summer term and a fee-supported winter session.

Winter courses are administered through the College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPaCE). Please note that CPaCE courses have a different fee structure than regular session courses, refer to the Winter Tuition and Fees information.

Schools: Most schools, including Los Angeles community colleges, are closed. Cal State Northridge is open.

* The San Luis Obispo campus is the only CSU campus on the quarter system where three quarters are equal to two semesters, or one academic year. All other campuses are on the semester system.

A semester system divides the academic year into two sessions: fall and spring. Each session is approximately 15 weeks long, with a winter break between the fall and spring sessions and a summer break after the spring session. Each semester you can take four to six classes depending on how many credits each class is.

Semester credits are worth 1.5 times more than quarter credits. Thus, a 120-credit-hour bachelor degree under the conventional system is equal to a 180-credit-hour degree under the quarter credit system.
